Ayurvedic Treatment For Liver

In Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine, the liver is considered a crucial organ responsible for processing and metabolising various substances in the body. Liver diseases are typically understood in the context of dosha imbalances, digestive issues, and accumulation of toxins.

The liver is primarily associated with the Pitta dosha. Imbalances in Pitta, characterised by excess heat and acidity, are often linked to liver disorders in Ayurveda. Ayurveda places significant importance on the concept of Agni, or digestive fire, which is crucial for the proper functioning of the liver. Impaired Agni can lead to the accumulation of toxins (ama) in the body, affecting liver health. Ama refers to undigested or unprocessed toxins that accumulate in the body due to poor digestion. The presence of ama is believed to contribute to various health issues, including liver disorders. The liver is considered the seat of Ranjaka Pitta, a specific subtype of Pitta dosha responsible for the colouring of blood. Imbalances in Ranjaka Pitta can affect the liver's ability to process and purify blood.
