Ayurvedic Treatment For Arthritis

Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine from India, views arthritis as a condition related to an imbalance in the doshas, primarily Vata dosha. When Vata is aggravated, it can lead to dryness, reduced lubrication in the joints, and pain. Arthritis, known as "Sandhivata" in Ayurveda, is characterised by inflammation and pain in the joints. The imbalance in Vata dosha is believed to lead to the accumulation of toxins (ama) in the joints, resulting in stiffness, swelling, and discomfort.

There are various types of arthritis, and Ayurveda recognizes several subtypes based on the involvement of doshas. The most common form is known as "Amavata," where ama (toxins) and Vata dosha jointly affect the joints. The accumulation of ama in the joints is considered a significant factor in the development of arthritis. Ama is a sticky, toxic substance formed due to incomplete digestion and metabolism.
